I was going to spare no expense for this wonderful woman. When I set it up I was horrified to see that the cheap radio she had got better reception than this one.
Is it me. I finally got WBZ but I had to move this radio to the corner of the room to get it.
All my aunt wanted for her 80th birthday was a radio that got good reception of WBZ AM radio in Boston. I was so proud of myself and bragging to the rest of the family of what I got.
I don't think so. She only lives one city away but her not so expensive radio was loosing signal.
I was about to get the Bose Wave radio but read all the reviews and it seemed people were raving about the reception of this one.
The tuning precision is fantastic. I got this as a surprise gift for my wife, who actually wanted the alarm clock. I probably should have looked for a used one, but I'm pretty sure these things hold their value anyway. The whole thing is easy to use and great overall, but I'm not sure it justifies the price tag. However, the alarm clock version costs twice as much, and this is already pricey for an AM/FM radio. It sounds great for its size, and oh how I have longed for another radio with a big fat analog knob.
I only give it a 2nd star for a pleasing appearance. The tonal quality is so bad I can barely stand to listen to it. The audio quality of this radio is really poor. Yes, I know it only has one speaker, but I'm not talking about lack of stereo.
She has never given me an unsolicited opinion on any of my audio gizmos (iPods, radios, headphones, etc). The tone, the volume, the richness of sound is really more that you should expect from something this size. My wife, on the other hand, is very ignorant about radio and audio/video things in general. It does come with an external wire tail antenna (and a place to plug it in for increase FM reception); however, I've NEVER had to use it once to get all the FM stations in my area. What the outdated picture that Amazon has posted leaves out is that the Tivoli Model One comes with an Auxilary input and the power switch has an Aux setting (in addition to the OFF, FM, AM settings).Mostly, I simply want to emphasize that this radio sounds so rich, so full, so deep and punchy that you will be VERY surprised.pleasantly surprised at how good this little radio sounds. I used to be a professional radio DJ and have been a fan of radio for decades.
I typically keep the volume at about 1/8th of full.yes, that's right; I barely turn it up at all and the sound FILLS the room and can disturb people watching TV in another room. I have plugged our computer's soundcard output in the Aux input of this radio and use this radio as our computer's speakers. This little box has volume for days. I'm confident that you'll be very happy with your purchase. She simply doesn't care about that stuff.until THIS radio. Allow to me reiterate that this radio has very good reception on both AM and FM bands and has very clear sound.
I love radios of all shapes and sizes. The first time my wife turned on the radio to listen to something on YouTube, she was blown away. Sensitivity is good and selectivity is also good; once you pull in a station you get it clearly without static and interference (at least that's been my experience). I bought this Tivoli radio after doing ALOT of research and reading of reviews. She loves it.Other reviews have likely covered all the details on it's limited features, etc. It sounds great." Understand, she just DOESN'T make statements like that.
She's a layman who simply listens to whatever radio is around at the time. She came out of the room (home office) and exclaimed, "Man, that's a really nice radio.
In the past I have used it to receive free radio, but more recently I have been listening to online music, as well as my personal collection. I really love the sound.
For me, having a speaker that looks as good as this one, and performs as well as it does, the 100 plus price has proven to be a value. I think that the initial cost is a bit pricey, however, the look of the unit is well worth it in my opinion.
I have the Tivoli Audio Model One radio. Sound clarity with both radio as well as the auxiliary input is clear and refreshing.
So much so that I've bought another unit as a present for my mother. I purchased this radio about 3 - 4 years ago, and I use it daily as my computer's speakers.
As an independent unit for both radio and audio in, the quality is superb.
